Music Video First Draft Analysis

Overall, the first draft of my music video got a level 2, I think this is a fair mark as there were lots of things that could be improved that I could see, these include the lead singer not fully being confident with the words of the song, the backstage footage wasn't very realistic as it was clearly shot in a school, also there was modern technology in the background of some shots which ruins the verisimilitude as it is supposed to be set in the 1970's.  Lastly, the location of where the band were performing does not look right for tho style of music video.
However there are some good points that I can make about my draft, the band work well together and all look the part, the drums and guitar look very realistic and are in time throughout the video, the black and white editing makes it look as if it was filmed in 1970 and what the band are wearing also makes it seem this way.

Lyrics of my chosen song

The Who - Can't Explain

Got a feeling inside (Can't explain)
It's a certain kind (Can't explain)
I feel hot and cold (Can't explain)
Yeah, down in my soul, yeah (Can't explain)

I said (Can't explain)
I'm feeling good now, yeah, but (Can't explain)

Dizzy in the head and I'm feeling blue
The things you've said, well, maybe they're true
I'm gettin' funny dreams again and again
I know what it means, but

Can't explain
I think it's love
Try to say it to you
When I feel blue

But I can't explain (Can't explain)
Yeah, hear what I'm saying, girl (Can't explain)

Dizzy in the head and I'm feeling bad
The things you've said have got me real mad
I'm gettin' funny dreams again and again
I know what it means but

Can't explain
I think it's love
Try to say it to you
When I feel blue

But I can't explain (Can't explain)
Forgive me one more time, now (Can't explain)

I said I can't explain, yeah
You drive me out of my mind
Yeah, I'm the worrying kind, babe
I said I can't explain

Poster first draft

I chose to use a simple poster design for my first draft, using influences from many jazz band advertisements.  One that caught my eye was 'Cool Struttin' by Sonny Clark, I liked the idea of the subtitles below the main heading in a list on the right of the poster, therefore decided to use a similar technique on my design.  Also, the 'Cool Struttin' poster looks vintage which is the style I am going for as my band are based in the 60's/70's era.  I decided to use jazz posters as inspiration as this is a genre of music which was at its peak during the mid 20th century, a similar time period to my band.  When printing my poster I had problems with the quality of the printer therefore the picture was very dark, also the printer cut off part of the picture which I didn't think about however thats why I did a draft in the first place so I could learn from these mistakes.

DigiPack First Draft

When designing my digipack I thought about the bands that have mainly influenced mine and applied features of their artwork in my panels.  For example, the back of my digipack has been influenced by the back of the famous album Quadrophenia by The Who, it is a simple design with 2 colours (black and white) which are the house colours of the whole album, by doing this it gives the album a vintage feel to it.
